The Unicorn Restaurant of Grafton recently celebrated its 29th anniversary. Kevin and Gail Flanigan opened the restaurant on January 28th, 1983. The name was derived from an Irish folk tune and the decor is an eclectic collection of Irish memorabilia and mementos collected over the years. Gail Flanigan initially contacted the Irish Tourist Board for assistance with sources for the interior decor. Kindly, they replied and sent two photographs of Grafton Street in Dublin which she had framed and are in the entrance to this day.
Part of the unique charm of the restaurant has been their original and varied musical and theatrical past. Australian Seona McDowell performed Saturdays for many years as have magicians, a medieval troupe, The Houligans, Bridgid's Cross, and Lisa Spicer. For over a dozen years, The Unicorn Restaurant & Pub pioneered the Murder-Mystery Dinner Theater in this area with "Murder a la Carte." Currently the focus has been the food! The Unicorn combines classic steakhouse favorites with prime rib and a variety of seafood and Irish specialties.
